What are “Kami?” – Sanpai Japan

https://sanpai-japan.com/2016/05/25/what-are-kami/

"A very defining difference between kami and gods is that kami are not perfect. Kami sometimes make mistakes, get angry or commit evil acts. Kami can most definitely be evil. Another significant difference is that kami exist in our world, not a supernatural universe or holy land". One can clearly see the proximity between the concept of kami in Japanese Shintoism and that of ancient Greek gods and deities, which are sometimes notoriously remembered for being driven by passion equally with, if not more than mortals. Moreover, kami bear a striking resemblance to the concept of Dutch philosopher Spinoza, who introduced the term 'pantheism', to denote that nature itself is the locus of godly presence.
